Modern globalised commerce undermines democracy while legislation is influenced by industry lobbying and constrained by the political borders. Global corporations can avoid accountability and ethical scrutiny by having labour in one country, markets in another and detached shareholders.
While voting affects political outcomes, it is spending that affects commercial and economic outcomes. Boycotting companies is sometimes the only means by which we can uphold ethical values, in lieu of appropriate legislation.
This worldwide fast food chain’s supply chain is horrific. I mean, people are buying cheap buckets full of sliced up young chickens (they’re killed after a couple of months) and think this company (that generated $3 Billion revenue in 2021) has kindness to animal lives on its agenda?
