Recently, I took part in a Discord server, hosted by a gamer I’d met online. Another user (by the name Samuksis) had posted some disturbing anti-Semitic content. I was disgusted by this and informed Discord. Discord did nothing and ignored my communications on the issue (via email and Twitter).
From my own experience and reading about Discord online, I have come to the conclusion that
- Discord does not adequately protect users from unsafe content (especially young/vulnerable users)
- Many Discord servers have toxic communities (although conversely many are friendly)
- There are serious security and privacy concerns about the platform, which Discord refuses to acknowledge nor explain despite numerous requests
