As a child of the 80s, I do have some history with gaming and I make the odd gaming post. I love games, whatever the medium – be it digital or traditional board games. I have quite sizeable collections of each type.
I mainly game on the Xbox Series X and then PC (via Steam). I have the occasional bash on Wii U and the Xbox 360 (games not bbackwards compatible). I will have a bash on some retro games (e.g. Sega Mega Drive or Amiga 500 etc.) and I have a fair number of emulators and large libraries for a lot of pre-2004 titles. Retro gaming is my thing though, I enjoy modern gaming.
I maintain a lot of my video games catalogue on rawg.io, which has my catalogue for PC, Wii U, Xbox 360 and Xbox One / Series (I don’t list retro games). I like quite a variety of game genres but staples tend to be FPS and racing; and still to this date, my all-time favourite is Minecraft (feel free to give me a shout to visit my Realm).
In terms of more traditional games (i.e. those existing before the Web), I enjoy:
- The Settlers of Catan (mainly Knights & Cities and Seafarers expansions).
- Uno via the mobile app (android / apple). If you want to play some partner games (or versus!) then you can send me a friend request via the app – my ID is 1357731973732 – do let me know your username before making a friend request as I may ignore usernames I don’t recognise.
- I play Scrabble via the Scopely Scrabble Go app (android / apple) – in Classic mode (i.e. the regular game). It’s nice because you can play in realtime or just take your turns whenever.
My stats are Average Word: 29 | Best Word: 116 | Average Game: 390 | Best Game: 540 - I enjoy Texas Hold ’em Poker (but play real money because otherwise is pointless). I’m generally up over the long term and still feel after a decade, I’m still learning.
- I enjoy Chess, Draughts (Checkers), Chinese Checkers, Backgammon and Risk. I’ll play Monopoly but because is is largely determined by chance, only if others are particularly keen to.
- I miss playing Magic The Gathering. I gave away all my cards to a young player years ago so I’d only be able to play a digital game now.
I stream the odd game on Twitch (just below) and you can see any previously recorded games on my YouTube playlist (below that). Big disclaimer: I’m not going to claim these vids are enthralling: I’m not your typical ‘scream everytime I get shot’ gamer and I’m not looking to make a career from this. I record gaming for myself because it’s so easy to do so and if someone else benefits from, or enjoys it, fine.
