I won a photography competition

After over a decade of owning a digital SLR camera and taking nearly a hundred thousand photos, I finally entered a photography competition for the first time.

The competition was run by the Arts department at the school I teach at. The theme was “cold” and so I submitted a photo I snapped back in Jan 2010 when it snowed heavily in Birmingham and I ventured out on a walk in the Lickey Hills, Birmingham. Okay, so it’s just a school photo competition but with such lovely feedback from colleagues and students does make me consider the possibility that my photography may have some appeal.

I’m very hard on myself about my photography – chiefly because I view my photos with a technical and cynical eye and I look at the incredible photos that professionals take with medium format cameras and see such a world of difference between them and where I am at. Perhaps, it’s not just the size of your camera that counts: I’ll start adding the snaps I’ve taken over the years to this website.

Anyway, here’s my entry.
