Mission Briefing
Purpose
Reconnaissance, Search and Rescue (SAR)
Rendezvous
Time: 19:30 to 21:30
Date: Wednesday 14th October
Location: SU 9924 5252; Junction of Juniper Close and Hazel Avenue
Intelligence
An aircraft landed in hostile territory at 06:00. The pilot is badly injured but his location is unknown. Prior to capture, the co-pilot left 4 clues (caches) in the area of operations (AO) and a description of how to find the clues. The description was smuggled out of a prison camp and is attached to this briefing. The AO has not been accurately mapped.
Objectives
- Follow the co-pilot’s description to locate the 4 clues and then locate the missing survivor.
- Complete an accurate map of the AO.
- Stealth; do not let hostile forces see you.
Additional
- Remove just one clue from each cache you find and one block corresponding to your team’s colour.
- Return the cache to its exact position, unless you are the last team to the cache – then collect the cache.
- Do not go beyond the AO boundaries defined at the time of briefing.
Co-Pilot Description
Walk through the gate into a clearing and immediately follow the path left along the edge of the clearing into a wooded area – heading North East. Follow the path for 350m, passing a tyre swing on your left and going straight over the cross-paths.
As you follow the paths bending round to the right and heading north; you will see a large coppiced tree with a bendy branch on your right. I have placed the first clue here.
Carry along the path and head north for 150m, following the fence on the left-hand side. You should end up at a junction with a path running east. There’s another large coppiced tree (near metal railing) there and I’ve left my second clue here.
From the tree, head along the past in an easterly direction as it briefly follows the river on your left. Go over the cross-path and head south-east until you come across a large path underneath telegraph poles. Turn left and walk in the direction east-north-east along this large patch for 150m.
After you pass a telegraph pole, take the path to the right, heading east-south-east for 100m until you reach a cross-path. Take the left path heading north-east and in 100m you will enter a clearing with a large Oak tree. I have left the third clue here.
From the tree head south-east through the clearing (about 150m) and then continue west through the clearing for about 180m until you reach the woodland edge and pick up another path. Follow this path west (you should see a fence along your left hand side) until you reach a junction.
At the junction, there’s a sign-post and I’ve placed the fourth clue in the bushes just behind it. From there, follow the path south-west for 70m and then as it bends rounds to the left and head south-south-east through the clearing for 180m until your reach the initial rendezvous point.
At this stage, with all four clues, you should have enough information to locate the pilot.
