Its primary purpose was for\nparachutes, used by the military.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">There are variants of paracord\nbut the de facto standard is <strong>550\nParacord Type III 7-strand, <\/strong>although this will often be commercial \u2013 not\nmilitary spec. Paracord has the following features:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\"><li>70 \u2013 250 kg strain<\/li><li>Lengths typically available from 5m to 30m<\/li><li>Diameter typically around woven into a belt. Certain techniques\ncan be used to weave each so that pulling a strand enables the cord to be\nreleased easily.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Paracord is <strong>not a climbing rope<\/strong> \u2013 it will not catch you if you fall.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">There are various types of paracord available so be sure to \u2018shop around\u2019 and try to go for the best quality as it is hard to anticipate usage.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">There&#8217;s lots of resources to make a paracord survival bracelet &#8211; here&#8217;s one:  <a rel=\"noreferrer noopener\" aria-label=\" (opens in a new tab)\" href=\"https:\/\/www.instructables.com\/id\/Paracord-bracelet-with-a-side-release-buckle\/\" target=\"_blank\">https:\/\/www.instructables.com\/id\/Paracord-bracelet-with-a-side-release-buckle\/<\/a><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">I made a paracord bracelet for a watch that my Dad gave me. (Any watch collectors, will be in horror at my disfigurement of a vintage 1960s French Seaman&#8217;s military &#8211; it&#8217;s a copy). I actually wove it from one long strand so it does have four strands running under the back. Pretty handy to not have lots of small strands.
