{"id":703,"date":"2013-11-27T08:30:00","date_gmt":"2013-11-27T08:30:00","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.jameshatton.co.uk\/blog\/?p=703"},"modified":"2021-11-24T03:36:00","modified_gmt":"2021-11-24T03:36:00","slug":"expedition-camp-checklist","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.jameshatton.co.uk\/blog\/2013\/11\/27\/expedition-camp-checklist\/","title":{"rendered":"Expedition\/Camp Checklist"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Planning<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p><em>Thorough planning\nis critical to the success of every expedition or camp \u2013 try to anticipate the\nworst case scenario and be prepared\u2026<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\"><li>Get any relevant maps, plan the route(s) and\nproduce route cards for each member.<br>\nMore\ninfo (overnight locations, emergency routes, can be found in the \u201cRoute\nPlanning\u201d document).<\/li><li>Be familiar with local bye-laws, events,\nrestrictions and seek any landowners\u2019 permission if necessary.<\/li><li>Identify a home contact and arrange some\n\u2018check-in\u2019 phone calls at particular times.<\/li><li>Review the kit list and ensure the necessary\nitems are obtained in plenty of time.<\/li><\/ul>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Pre-Flight<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p><em>These\nactivities are usually enacted the day or night before leaving for the\nexpedition.<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\"><li>Obtain the required food and water &#8211;\nprepare anything relevant (e.g. make sandwiches).<\/li><li>Safety check equipment, apply relevant\nwater-proofing and charge batteries before packing kit.<\/li><li>Check road traffic incidents\/transport times and\ncheck the destination weather forecast.<\/li><li>Provide a route plan to your home contact and\nagree first check-in time.<\/li><\/ul>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Kit List<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p><em>You are responsible for your own personal equipment and to ensure it is well packed. This list is not exhaustive so add any items required, specific to your expedition\/camp. In groups, it may be useful to apply name tags to identify your kit.
