Here is some art that others have made for me over the years. If I had to break attachments with the material world (as is inevitable by choice or by death), these treasures are some of the last that I could ever relinquish. I place value on, above all else, those gifts crafted by people’s own hands.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Take it or Leave It<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

It started when young, not even reached teens,
\nSuppressed all my fears, imprisoned my tears,
\nWith alcohol inside me I could be heard,
\nFelt very brave, felt top of the world,
\nBut as I got older it carried on,
\nWith alcohol inside me, I felt very strong,
\nMy thoughts were NO FEAR, I cared for no one,
\nBut as I grew wiser and opened my mind,
\nMy beliefs in the alcohol were very wrong,
\nIt stripped me of everything,
\nMy mind my heat had no care,
\nI looked deep inside but there was nothing there.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

As I grew older, I began to think,
\nI must do something to get off the drink,
\nI went into counselling to make a fresh start,
\nLearnt to feel real love, to open my heart,
\nBut I had to let go, and it ripped me apart,
\nSo back to the alcohol off I did go,
\nTo the oblivion liqueur, I couldn’t say no,
\nMany years passed, I’m back on the booze,
\nI must start again, I’ve got too much to lose.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

So off into detox, I positively went,
\nA cure for this illness would be heaven sent,
\nSo with the sweats and the shakes and a head full of shit,
\nForward I went not to try but to do it.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The second in the detox, and not so alone,
\nBack into society into my new home,
\nEaton House, is a place where I feel safe,
\nBack to the real world for this wayward straif.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

So one day at a time, I’m feeling strong,
\nStay off the booze, and I can’t go wrong,
\nMy confidence, respect and esteems are rebuilt,
\nToday, I’m content, not full of guilt,
\nSo now I live life one day at a time,
\nI will say to you in this experienced rhyme,
\nIf, you think and feel that drinks really smart,
\nForget it my friend, it will tear you apart,
\nDon’t take a drink and you’ll longer live,
\nOpen the bottle, the sooner you’ll die,
\nOn those words you can rely.
\nSo as I come to the end of my rhyme,
\nToday I live my life, one day at a time.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
